An airy soundtrack that celebrates childhood.

I wasn’t introduced to the music of the beach breeze incarnate that is Jack Johnson (Hawaiian pro-surfer-turned-singer-songwriter) until college and that fact still saddens me. His songs have an acoustic easiness to them that just makes you feel good. So, when I learned that he’d lent his talents to crafting the soundtrack for 2006’s Curious George film, I knew he’d do a wonderful job of invoking the spirit of that loveably inquisitive chimp.

Sing-A-Longs and Lullabies for the film Curious George has a serene folk rock lilt that can be enjoyed by children and adults alike. The songs cover a range of topics like sharing and recycling, but Johnson does an excellent job of making the theme of childhood curiosity ever-present throughout. My personal favorite song from the album, apart from a charming cover of the White Stripes’ We’re Going to Be Friends, is an ode to curiosity called Upside Down. The lyrics are a great reminder to never lose our wide-eyed, George-like wonder.
