The Iron Giant

A fantastic adaptation of the classic Ted Hughes robot story from 1968.

Not every kid will respond to this story of friendship between a robot from outer space and a boy, but the ones who do respond will LOVE it. The animation is superb, the storyline is clever and sophisticated, and unlike so much entertainment made for children, the filmmakers didn’t feel the need to thrown in non-stop gags or cheesy musical numbers. Instead, they create real wonder and break down a lengthy and potentially complex story about friendship, outer space, government, and more into clear, well-told parts. It’s an old-fashioned film in the best possible way.
