Join us at the Maker Faire

While our apps are digital, they take to heart the ethos of the maker movement. All of us at Tinybop grew up as tinkerers, as the kids constantly asking questions. We value learning through experimentation and curiosity, two ideas core to the maker movement, and we aim to embed those values within our apps.

This is why we’re looking forward to participating in the World Maker Faire, right in our backyard at the New York Hall of Science in Corona, Queens, this coming weekend, September 26th and 27th, 2015.

To describe Maker Faire as a festival doesn’t do it justice. It’s the Disney World of science. It’s a movement, a philosophy, a magical experience where thousands of people gather on one weekend to celebrate science, DIY, creativity, innovation, and plenty of silliness. There are robots, 3D printing, and ginormous dinosaurs built out of recycled materials and pedaled around to generate electricity for blending smoothies. You get the picture, it’s cool.

Talking to kids at Maker Faire is like watching magic. You can see their minds churn through all of their creative ideas as they get super pumped about building things.

This year, we’re excited to be participating in Maker Faire. On Saturday, September 26th, 2015, at 3 p.m., please join us and some of our favorite people from Tiggly, Toca Boca, Fatherly, Hopscotch, and NYC FIRST in a conversation. We’ll be leading the panel The Next Ada Lovelace: Inspiring the Future Generation of Female Makers. It’s sure to be a lively discussion with some important takeaways for finding pathways into STEAM and the maker movement for girls. (HINT: it doesn’t always require coding lessons!)
