Johnny Boo

A graphic novel about a mischievous ghost and his friends.

My kindergartner discovered the Johnny Boo series in his school library when he was four years old. I was looking for books for him when he silently appeared in front of me with a short stack of these bright, hardbound graphic novels. “Read these,” he said in a deadpan voice. It was love at first sight. The stories follow a happy little ghost named Johnny Boo. His conflicts are simple but fundamental to everyday life (e.g. experiences of jealously, betrayal, etc). The colors are bright, and stories resolve themselves neatly (though often with an odd twist). Best of all, the characters are both clever and imaginative: where else can you be threatened by the dreaded Ice Cream Monster?
