Little Digits

Little Digits is an innovative iPad-only app for kids just learning to count. The program is a series of counting games that respond to kids' fingers placed on the screen (Little Digits detects the number of fingers touching the screen). The app starts with simple counting and moves on to addition and subtraction. I’ve seen this program in action with two-year-olds and it is remarkably effective at reinforcing basic counting concepts within one to 10 and associating symbols to numbers. Kids like the interaction and the fun, hand-drawn look of the program. Note that multi-tasking gestures have to be turned off for the program to work properly. And, kids who already have counting skills will quickly master the program and become bored.
