Squiggles
A drawing and painting book.
I’ve never been a fan of traditional coloring books—maybe I just never liked coloring between the lines. My two boys are cut from the same cloth…they find traditional coloring books boring. Squiggles, by the noted Japanese illustrator Taro Gomi (of Everyone Poops!) is different. It provides the beginnings of drawings and limited context. Kids are invited to make the book their own. My kids love it. The book gives just enough structure to prompt the imagination without limiting kids to simply follow instructions. It’s a thick book with lots to explore. My only complaint is that book is SO thick that it doesn’t stay open easily which can be frustrating for children five or younger. Otherwise, I recommend it wholeheartedly.
