Experiment with a drawing and narration app.

Doodlecast is one of a growing number of iOS storytelling apps for kids. Whereas many of this class of apps are digital puppet shows, Doodlecast is simpler. It allows children to narrate and record as they draw and then play back the results. Kids start by choosing between a blank page or a basic jumping-off point (an empty plate, the sea, a face etc… simple, broad ideas to give context). Then, they are given a few minutes to draw with a basic brush set and are encouraged to talk about what they are drawing. Because touch screens are such intimate devices, kids sometimes will record thoughts they would never say out loud to an adult. If you’ve ever wondered what’s going on in your kid’s head while he draws, this app might be for you.
