Olivia and the Fairy Princesses

Join Olivia on her quest for individuality!

Growing up, I was a huge fan of the Olivia series. I loved listening to the adventures of this imaginative, ambitious pig as she navigated the world around her. Olivia was kind-hearted, curious, and perfectly sassy. It wasn’t until recently that I stumbled on one of the more recent books in the series, Olivia and the Fairy Princesses, and immediately fell in love with the series all over again.

In this book, we find Olivia in the midst of a major identity crisis. It seems that everybody around her wants to be a pink, sparkly princess. Olivia admits that she once wanted this too, but now she can’t take it anymore. Olivia, instead, dares to be different and selects a warthog as her Halloween costume of choice while all of the other girls were dressing up as princesses. While Olivia's struggle for individuality is amusing, it teaches young readers just how important it is to be yourself and challenge stereotypes - who says princesses always have to be so sparkly and ruffly?

In Olivia and the Fairy Princesses, readers will learn that life is awfully boring when everybody looks the same and hopefully feel inspired to embrace their differences.
