This vast archive of vintage recordings is a window onto children’s entertainment from the 40s and 50s. The records were originally digitized and published online as a one-year project. Now, several years later, hundreds of recordings have been archived on the site.

To get a taste of the archive start with Noises and Sounds or try What is an Atom. The site includes readings of many popular books including Babar’s Travels, The Little Engine that Could, and 500 Hats of Bartholomew Cubbins, as well as 15-minute productions of many popular Disney movie titles.

While a few of these records are hard-to-swallow treacle confections or wildly offensive portraits of a less tolerant age, there are lots of fun gems here. We find the recordings perfect for long car rides.
