An introduction to classical music.

The Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra, spotlighted in Wes Anderson’s Moonrise Kingdom, is a touchstone for those of us who grew up with classical music educations. A narrator's introduction of the various sections of the orchestra can help children start to recognize individual instruments within a wall of sound. The most famous version can be found on a collection of Children’s Classic’s by Leonard Bernstein which is narrated by the young Henry Chapin, but we’re fans of this recording spoken by Sean Connery himself. Connery also narrates Peter and the Wolf which is pure delight. Sitting quietly and listening to a 24-minute story has quite a calming effect on kids. Sometimes the kids will draw as the story is told, always with fun results. Recommended!
