A visual music creation tool.
Thicket is a tool that allows you to visually manipulate sounds to make music. The app provides a backing beat and with each tap, produces a beautiful new twist of lines and additional sound. If you have multiple iPads in your household, kids can also play on dual iPads, complementing each other with with their tracks. One of the best parts about this app is that kids need no previous experience making music; it’s accessible for all ages, and invites kids to experiment with sound.
I first learned about Thicket when I saw Hands on Music: An iPad band for students with disabilities, an amazing video produced by District 75 in New York City. My jaw dropped when I saw what students could create using just iPads and visual representations of sounds. It’s a delightful way to think both about music and how to use the iPad as a classroom tool.
